Entführer täuschte Lösegeld-Erpressung vor" (in German). Der Spiegel Online. 30 August 2006. Archived from the original on 2 September 2006 . Retrieved 8 September 2006.

In a damning judgment, the coroners, Johann Missliwetz and Martin Grassberger, declared that medical and legal reports concluding that Priklopil's death was suicide were 'worthless'. Realised his arrest was imminent, Priklopil fled his house in the car Natascha had been vacuuming. The car later found abandoned by police, while Přiklopil continued to evade police on foot, until he reached the Wien Nord station in Vienna. He then took his own life by jumping under a train. Kampusch has also been criticised by readers for the starkness of her prose, but to me it felt utterly appropriate. This is not a novel and the events and circumstances she describes need no additional dramatisation, nor emotive language to win our sympathy. It is enough that she has had the courage to share her story in such detail, not shrinking from any of the atrocities he committed, with the exception of his sexual abuse. I respect and understand the choice Kampusch has made in not including this aspect of her enslavement to him. She wrote the book only four years after her escape. It's early days yet for her to be processing and healing what has happened to her, and to expose herself to such a degree may well have compounded the damage done.

Kampusch eventually gained her captor’s trust to the extent that he would take her out in public. Once, he even brought her skiing. But she never stopped looking for her chance to escape. Kampusch wrote a book about her ordeal, 3096 Tage ( 3096 Days), published in September 2010. [61] It was adapted into a movie, 3096 Days, in 2013. In her official statement, Kampusch said, "I don't want and will not answer any questions about personal or intimate details". [40] After Kampusch's escape, police investigated whether Přiklopil had an accomplice, [41] but they eventually determined that he acted alone. [42] Ruth Toma completed Eichinger's unfinished screenplay and the film was directed by Sherry Hormann. [67] It was also cinematographer Michael Ballhaus's final film. The film 3096 Days ( 3096 Tage) was released on 28 February 2013. [68] [69] She made a happy, relaxed impression. I didn't, of course, realise that it was Natascha Kampusch. It was only when I was questioned by the police that they showed me a photo and I realised it was her.'
