About this deal

Acquired a vintage bottle of the pure parfum, from the 70s. Achingly beautiful, infinitely better than the current EDP and EDT, which I really like, but don't love the way I love this. Animalic floral, the natural accords make all the difference. My bottle is partially used, but has been so well preserved. This is the Joy I remember. Now to find a vintage 1000 perfume, as that is my favorite out of all the classic Patous. There's just a hint of powder too, and if you like that sort of thing, it's deliciously delightful. I happen to adore it. After hearing the tragic death of Joy, I have these parfum and EDT for months, today comes the time to compare them side by side... let's begin. Middle notes : At the heart of the fragrance lies Camellia, Geranium, Lily, Rose, Jasmine, Coriander, Lily-of-the-Valley, Iris and Ylang-Ylang

It was a floral but compared to the powerful bright floral scents of the 80’s it was so subtle, it was almost invisible. Unable to find any ‘joy’ wearing this perfume for my personal pleasure, I decided to purposefully try and gauge the male reaction to it. Joy is a perfume created for Parisian couturier Jean Patou by perfumer Henri Alméras in 1929. It is considered to be one of the greatest fragrances created and is a landmark example of the floral genre in perfumery. [1] It is no longer produced. [2] History [ edit ]This is kind of disappointing. For the price, I really expected it to perform a lot better. I'm not really sorry I bought it, this in my mind is one every perfume lover should experience once in their lifetime, especially now that it's going out of production. Like Shalimar, Chanel No.22 and other greats, the composition of Joy is so pure and exact, it renders the fiction of perfume invisible and makes it feel not as a wear but as an identity that you take over or decide to cohabitate. Joy" was voted "Scent of the Century" by the public at the Fragrance Foundation FiFi Awards in 2000, beating its rival " Chanel No. 5". [7]

With just the right amount of fruity, floral, and green nuances to keep it intriguing, the Cassini opens fairly vibrant and strong before swiftly settling into a warm spicy amber. From 1967 to 1999 Jean Kerléo was the house perfumer, he developed all their perfumes during that time including "1000" (1972) and "Sublime" (1992), "Patou Pour Homme" (1980). [8]I can't detect aldehydes or anything animalic here.on my skin it's all about a rich floral heaven in a golden sweet base, something like honey and champagne.among it's floral notes rose is the most prominent one to my nose.it's not an overly powdered, dusty rose.it's a sweet, bright and jammy rose.I can also smell ylang ylang but not much white florals, except something like magnolia That's why I won't buy Joy, because he doesn't offer enough for the price, durability and sillage can't keep up with Chanel. Allure is the better choice for me, also the cheaper one!

We were disappointed by the name alone, not only by the classic "Joy" by Jean Patou, but also by the fact that the "J'adore in Joy" by Dior already exists. Nevertheless, there was still such a spark of hope that the scent might tear it out after all. The best known of Patou's perfumes is " JOY", a heavy floral scent, based on the most precious rose and jasmine, that remained the costliest perfume in the world, until the House of Patou introduced "1000" (a heavy, earthy floral perfume, based on a rare osmanthus) in 1972. Before JOY, the House of Patou released many other perfumes, many which were to celebrate particular events. For example, Normandie (an oriental forerunner to perfumes such as Yves Saint Laurent's Opium) celebrated the French ocean liner of the same name, and Vacances (a mixture of green and lilac notes) celebrated the first French paid national holidays.Joy? For Dior's latest creation, it smells quite flowery. The opening is pleasantly citric and fresh with bergamot and mandarin, whereby the bergamot takes over the main part here. Quite fast the whole matter mutes itself a little and a clean rose appears. Jasmine and musk add a dash of fluffy creaminess. All in all, the fragrance does not develop excessive sweetness, but it remains rather bland and somewhat boring. Patchouli, sandalwood and cedar show their presence with extreme restraint. The shelf life is, like the Sillage, quite manageable.

I worded out the words...Parfum and thought oh, something for me to smell! I carefully opened the bottle, thinking I better be careful or I may spill it and get into trouble. Well, I sort of did...but it wasn't for spilling a single precious drop of it at that very moment, it was for releasing a genie from its container. Intense and luscious with alluring floral composition, JOY was created by Henri Alméras, who made its top notes irresistibly delightful. The composition starts with fragrant jilt tuberose, luscious rose, ylang-ylang blossom, aldehydes, sweet and mouthwatering pear, and green notes. The heart beats passionately in pure and sweetly fresh jasmine notes, seductive and balmy spicy and darkened iris root. The base whiffs with sensual musk, warm and milky-powdery sandalwood, with mild musky civet tones. I then bought a new EDT (produced by SA Designer Perfumes) because I was really wanting a spray and more longevity. The new EDT has a more defined opening with some aldehydes and fruit, a lasting heart of indolic jasmine and rose, and eventually transitioning to the soapy base I loved from the older EDT. (About 4+ hours of longevity, but still 4 wonderful hours).

After the closure of the haute couture business the company has continued to produce fragrances under the Jean Patou brand. Patou also produced fragrances for Lacoste, when Patou acquired the license in the 1960s, [6] and Yohji Yamamoto in the 1990s. [7] Joy is a floral fragrance that is widely loved and appreciated. In a situation where you cannot lay your hands on a bottle, you can go for any one of the perfumes that are similar to it. I'm a gourmand lover and I collect and love celebrity perfumes but even my modern nose can see and appreciate beauty and joy is so beautiful.
