About this deal

By following nine different routines that match your baby’s natural rhythms, this method claims to avoid the issues that bring on endless tears such as hunger and tiredness. I think of those boys I looked after who needed such a lot of help to sleep and I know I don’t want that. I agree with juju - I have a big, healthy, usually agreeable baby, and we can loosely follow Gina with no real problems (he can easily cope with going 3 hours between feeds, and has done since 4 weeks old). Having noted that I was reading the book, my respected friends-with-kids were unanimous in their hatred of the "Queen of routine". I didn't get such a strong reaction myself, but I expect I'm more likely to once the kid arrives - though I will say Ford has an unfortunate tendency towards smugness which is not going to help in winning over her critics.

My daughter naturally begins to get sleepy around the time that Gina Ford suggest that you put them down so that helps but every once in a while we do have off days. As for me, after I nailed that sleeping-through-the-night thing at six months (a little later than she said it would happen, but hey ho) I was pregnant again, and then again, and then again and then again. I was given this book by my sister-in-law and told to read it with a grain of salt. I did read it, cover-to-cover, 5 months ago, during the last few weeks of my pregnancy. Even at the time, I found certain suggestions such as ironing your baby's sheets (which will only be pissed/shat/puked on within 24 hours) absurd. Parents of infants barely have time to get themselves showered let alone iron bedsheets. I also developed a great deal of skepticism upon reading that Gina Ford does not have children of her own. However, having absolutely no experience with babies or children, I decided to reserve judgement on this book until after a few months of real life with a baby. Six boys in the space of nine years, with different personalities, needs, bodies, temperaments, all squeezed into one basement room.Learning what your baby needs when takes time and patience. But you'll see patterns emerge over time. And if you log your baby's naps, feedings, and active times, you can use this record to come up with a timetable for doing things. When starting out, put your baby's schedule first Now... I have a 4 month old baby boy, and I am constantly receiving compliments about how happy, contented and well behaved he is. He has already been on 4 transatlantic flights and hardly made a peep for any of them. And guess what.... there isn't a single shred of routine in his life! He sleeps when he's tired. He eats when he's hungry. He plays in between.... and we are all getting on just fine. If you want to start with the routine then start with the waking at 7 and it should fall into place from there with the napping and night time routine. Then work on the feeding routine though I must admit we demand fed (is there any other way?) so I couldn't advise you on getting the feeding into the strict routine. Lastly dont worry if he doesn't do what the routine says! They are all individuals. The main point of Gina Ford is that the baby has more awake time and more food during the day, so that they can have nice long and good quality sleeps at night. Please note: this is not an endorsement of the Gina Ford method, simply an explanation of the concept. If you are considering the Gina Ford method, we would recommend seeking advice from your midwife or health visitor first. Most popular articles to read next

I've not really posted on here before, but I'm wondering if any of you can help. We have got our 7-month old son into a really good routine, that I'm pretty sure sort of follows Gina Ford's CLB. However, he wakes up regularly between 5.30 and 6 and no matter what we do I can't get him to sleep later than 6am. It may feel like just when you've gotten into a predictable groove with your little one, it's time to change it again. As your baby gets older, they'll need fewer daytime naps and more playtime and stimulation. They'll also need to eat solid foods – first just once a day, but eventually several times a day. As these developmental shifts happen, your child's schedule will shift as well. Don't expect perfection Once you have ruled out genuine hunger as a cause, and are ensuring that your baby is well fed, I would advise that you try a solution that I call the ‘assisting to sleep method’. The aim of this method is to get your baby used to sleeping at regular times during naps and in the evening, which will help him to sleep through the night as soon as he is physically able. After genuine hunger and the wrong sleep associations, I find that too much daytime sleep is the most common reason why a baby does not settle in the evening, or wakes frequently during the night. When this happens a vicious circle soon emerges where the baby needs to sleep more during the day because they are not sleeping well at night.Bu kitap sayesinde ilk aydan beri bebeğimin gece ve gündüz uykuları düzenli, banyo rutinimiz, günlük rutinimiz, beslenme rutinimiz uyum içinde. Gün içerisinde sürekli düzeni değişmeyen bebek ve iyi uyuyan bebek haliyle son derece mutlu, huzurlu ve öğrenmeye açık oluyor. But, as the critics cry, having had no babies of her own, how can she really know what it is like to have a baby cry it out? I agree, Gina Ford only tells you to let a baby cry when they are overtired and wont settle to sleep which is why I think you should try it just once. It's a last resort (which it seems as though you have tried everything else) and the baby shouldn't be left for longer than 10 minutes. Only do this if you are sure that your baby isn't hungry, thirsty, cold, hot, in need of a nappy change etc.
