About this deal

Also, keep in mind, the first sprays out of a new bottle, and right after transit to boot, are often terrible. This fragrance isn't something to play around with, if sprayed to harshly then you will definitely regret it. Anyway, everyone else has covered this one from all fronts, I’m just saying thanks for some workarounds. In the dry down, I get soft rose, a green note, a faint iris butter warming the mix, and just a touch of LoV.

Infamously, it was once the most expensive perfume in the world - shortly after the Great Depression, which somehow didn't hamper its success. This gesture, extravagant even by today's standards, revolutionized the way in which fragrances were created. Clearing out some papers last week I found a couple of folded sheets of paper that for god knows what reason I printed out years ago. It was the favorite of many divas such as Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, María Félix and many others.

I suppose you never know where you'll to find the big 'Rosebud' moments in your memory, and I never thought the bottle of Joy would sweep me up and carry me away. In the 70's and 80's, My godmother always drove a big, white Cadillac, and the joke was that when the carpet got dirty, she would get a new one. Karl Lagerfeld joined the fashion house as head designer in 1958, where he created the memorable long flowing dresses inspired by the 1930s, in homage to the founder. The sillage on my is about two feet, but it quickly dissipates and I’m left with a very beautiful and delicate rose. I find it resembles Chanel NO 5, they belong to the same era (I think) and hence, that might have been the general trend.

As time presses on, my skin brings out the absolute worst of Joy, it makes a mess of the lasting base notes. I'm not really sorry I bought it, this in my mind is one every perfume lover should experience once in their lifetime, especially now that it's going out of production. Red roses and jasmine blooming at dawn indeed smell like this strong, with some almost animalic richness. This review is for the Eau De Toilette (most recent formulation prior to its discontinuation) and parfum extrait (tiny 7mL black bottle from the 1960s). but JOY by Jean Patou, which is just as big, gradually fell into oblivion and was finally discontinued. Like many people, getting my nose and brain to forget about feces and focus on the flowers was nearly impossible. He created “handkerchief” dresses made of knotted silk scarves that became his signature within the house. I will say that as far as packaging, the attention to detail of the older versions is extraordinary.

I use it in different climates, including hot days - the heat makes the flowers of this perfume vibrate even more, becoming even more alive and exuberant. The combination of oriental-notes makes this seductive and alluring, perfect for a romantic evening. Yes, the civet is there and in your face for about the first half hour, so if that doesn't work for you, this might not be your jam. In one of my previous reviews I mentioned how I remember this from my youth as being dominated by a beautiful rose, but that it was no longer as pronounced as it once was. Joy stands for forever, I'm appreciated to know once we had this kind of beautiful thing in our lives, hope people can always enjoy what Joy wants to tell us: joy is around you wherever or whenever you're.After the shock of his passing, Madeleine Patou, his sister, and Raymond Barbas, her husband, took over the reins of the house. if you're ever in the mood for something just a bit darker, a more of a "Noir" version of Eau de Joy, try layering Eau de Joy with the Russian ~Tete-A-Tete~ by Nouvelle Etoile, combined they produce an almost gothic, plush velvet version of Eau de Joy. I believe it a responsibility to support independent businesses that do their job well, and I failed to fulfill said responsibility.

No matter the strength, or the era, it has a sickening smell on opening of rotting fruit and something worse which I'm too polite to mention here, that I just can't get beyond. I'm not sure what it is about it, there's just something entirely magical about it - the aldehydes just do something to me. With my body chemistry Joy was a simple floral that had an intense opening and then, in less than 5 minutes, poof, quickly dissipated. It was unique, not offensive, but to my nose, it was disappointing and I never purchased another bottle. I own this in both the Parfum and EDP, and while I have commonly heard that all the versions are somewhat different from each other, I feel the differences between the two I have are vague at best. There is kind of melancholy to this one, its for ladies of the past era who were not independent but prisoners of their social cages. It is a sweet floral, rather linear flower bomb of Jasmine, a note I find too girly and don't really like. This is the classic rose/jasmine I imagined as classic as possible, like a fine vintage movie of bygone era.
